LAMP Hosts Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to Celebrate New Beginnings and Continued Commitment to the Community

Valdosta, GA – December 10, 2024 – Lowndes Associated Ministries to People, Inc. (LAMP) hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony at their facility, located at 714 Charlton St, to celebrate recent renovations and their ongoing dedication to supporting individuals and families facing homelessness in South Georgia.

Founded in 1984, LAMP has been a vital resource in the community, providing services such as emergency shelter, Rapid Re-Housing, street outreach, life-skills training, and meal and hygiene support. As the only shelter in the region that serves men, women, families, and female prison re-entry individuals, LAMP ensures that no one in South Georgia is left without shelter or resources.

The ribbon cutting marked the completion of two newly renovated rooms at LAMP, funded by the generous contributions of the Bruce Williams Legacy Fund and The Judy Hathcock Family Foundation. These renovations are part of LAMP's "New Horizon" Capital Campaign, aimed at enhancing facilities to better serve the growing needs of the community. Plans include upgrading dormitories, kitchen appliances, and other essential infrastructure to improve daily operations and provide a more dignified environment for clients.

In addition to facility improvements, LAMP is preparing for the "Camp Out for Homelessness" event in Spring 2025. This unique event will engage the community in raising awareness about homelessness while offering participants a chance to experience a night outdoors to better understand the challenges faced by those without stable housing. The event will include storytelling sessions, fundraising opportunities, and activities to spark empathy and drive change.

LAMP’s mission goes beyond providing shelter. Through its comprehensive programs, the organization addresses the root causes of homelessness, helping clients regain stability and independence. With the support of generous donors, dedicated volunteers, and the local community, LAMP continues to make homelessness a temporary reality for individuals and families in South Georgia.
